As an intuitive, process-based painter, my paintings all begin in an expressive, non-objective manner, without a plan or composition in mind. However, often times during this process, figures begin to emerge, and a narrative begins to unfold. A feeling or concept I’ve been pondering comes out in a powerful way … an injustice, a joy, a passion, a question, or a belief. To me it seems as if the figures and their stories are already present, and I’m just letting THEM guide me into their existence on the canvas and the wood, through the materials. Thus, I feel as if I’m making the unconscious conscious, bringing awareness to the moments of our existence.
